Got a new starter for it, however when I hit the ignition key all I hear as I did with the previous starter was that familiar loud spinning but not engagement of the motor.

Something internal to the motor go kaput?

Yep, I just recently determined I'll be splitting the cases on mine, the starter clutch is starting to miss engaging. Then again if I pull this engine, I'll just put the spare in and then go through this one at my leisure.

          Just for Grins

You might try removing the starter and using one of those pump oil cans shooting some straight 30 weight into the sprag as best you can. Sometimes the oil drains off of them if the engine has been sitting a long time and the residue turns to gunk and keeps the pawls from engaging. Ya got nothing to loose at this point so why not. You could get real lucky and they work

I don't know what I would do, but I would try alot of things before I would split the cases. from your earlier post it was working, Never been there but I don't think it just quits with no warning.

Is the bike cold...like outside. If it is and you have thicker oil in the bike it will cause this type of issue. Heavier viscosity oils not so good in cold weather. JAT
