After trying the "push pin trick" and the "mechanic's probe trick" I still have a broken Pilot screw in one of the carbs on an F that I am restoring. Tomorrow, I am going to try using a little heat to see if it will budge. If that doesn't work, I am probably going to abandon that carb and move on.
I have other banks of carbs to pick from.
My options:
1) Replace just that one carb body with one taken from a rack that has 3 good carbs, and one with a broken float post. I am a little leary of disassembling the bank and messing with the T's.
Or
2) Replace the whole bank with one from an 80 Special, or an 81 Midnight.
How much trouble is it to change from the Special? I know that the vacuum and fuel lines are differant.
Also, If I DO get the broken pin out, I will need a new set if Pilot screws. Motorcyclecarbs.com sells them for about $66 for the 4 screws with shipping and tax. That seems high. Has anyone found a better source?
TIA
