  • Where Can I Find Vance & Hines 4-2 Pipes

I've seen a set on you tube and read a couple people saying they have them in thier signature on here but where can I find some. If I can find some Vance and Hines 4 into 2 pipes then I will have a really nice set of stock 80G exhaust up for sale soon.

Unfortunately, only MAC is still making the exhaust for these bikes. So, anything else is used market only. So..Ebay, Craigslist, etc are the only source. Funny thing is, the exhaust is worth almost as much as the bike itself!

Sounds like I might have better luck finding a set of stock pipes with the mufflers rusted out and finding a set of short shot mufflers and slipping those on. My pipes are in to good condition to hack up.

I have the right side headers for a 4-2 stock system. No 1 header has a small dent in the first bend.

I have a set of headers off of a 78E and also a set of I think Mac headers. I should get the measurements off them as where the mufflers attach is much larger than the stock headers. I have not looked at them for some time, but if you are interested I could get some pics for you.

Found a stock set for an 80 on eBay the other day. There's a lot of rust and some dents, but might be worth a look. Especially at the current price.

Those aren't stock; they have some aftermarket mufflers welded to the OEM headpipes...

Ah I stand corrected. I've seen mufflers like that in various pics online, and just assumed that's what they were. That's what I get for assuming, I guess...

The interesting part about that set is the PO went to the trouble of fabbing a crossover; most don't. There is a bit of power to be gained by doing so...

If your OEM pipes are in good condition, why in the world whould you want to replace them?? The stock setup is the very best there ever was, and no aftermarket setup is ever going to be better. Unless yours are rusted out, there is no reason to replace them.

Honestly they just aren't loud enough for me. I might have found a set of mac headers in really good shape so if that's the case I'll get some vance & hines shortshots and slip them over and see how that sounds.

That would be the easier and cheaper way to do it.

Bug is right with one caveat, the OEM pipes will give the best power curve over the widest range, but a 'good' 4-1 will offer more power on the top end with the right jetting, etc. But nearly all of the 4-2 aftermarket exhaust won't give you a gain (the Campbell X-pipe probably being the sole exception @ $900), and most will cause you to lose power...

If you just gotta have something louder, here's a interesting thread...
