  • Running temperatures

Anyone know what the running temps are for the exhaust and engine of an 81 LH. Looking to get the original exhausts re-black chromed, and the engine repainted with ceramic paint. The guy asked me for these two temperatures. Any help would be good.

I can chime in a little bit further

On my bike, temps on the side of the jugs and on the head usually run in the neighborhood of 285 while in the well right near the spark plug the temps are about 325. Thats sitting still at idle. I have measured the same spots while out riding and the temps are not much different since the motor is being cooled by the airstream.

Engine paint should be no less than 500 degree paint but higher is recommended because even if you run lean for only a few minutes the motor temp can exceed 500 in some hot spots. Dont know about the black chrome for your pipes.
