  • Just got 2 XS1100s. New to the Forum

    Hey yall,
Someone from XJBikes.com referred me here after I picked up 2 XS11s and an extra engine and extra carbs and a BOX of extra parts for $700. Pretty sweet deal! I was just gonna part both bikes out but I LOVE the body of this bike and how its oldschool, but just damn sexy.
So Ima need some help on the restoration of this bad girl.
Wouldnt mind some advice on how to make a side mount license plate holder and how to redo a rear fender with a smaller tail light and turn sigs.
I'm really excited about this rebuild! I've always wanted a bigger bike. My current ride is a Maxim 700. Always wanted an 11
    Thanks Yall
    -Chris

Well, it looks like both basic bikes are standards, so that will help with the parts situation. And both look to be in decent shape, so that's another plus. You should check both frame numbers and engine numbers to see just what years you have as that can make differences in what part fits what. This info can be found here:http://www.xs11.com/faqs/153-serial-...ry-colors.html

I have a tank listed similar to that in the parts forums. $75 and shipping if you're interested.

Congrats on the bikes SLKid. This site is a big help to people not familiar with the xs11. Make sure to check out the Tech Tips, they gave me a ton of help with my bike.

Hey thanks for the warm welcome yall!
Yeah i fell in love with that tank too lol! I cant wait to start construction on her. I'm thinkin i'ma keep her stock, keep it simple, cause i love the style. I just wanna clean it up a bit and make her sharp.
I'm pretty sure the silver tank one is the 1980. I'ma remove the engine guards and put on Highway bars that were on the other bike Might need to find a rear fender cause the one on wont slide down all the way without bending the edges in.
Looks like the front fender bolts are missing. Anyone know what size those are? Maybe I can find em at home depot.
I think i'll check out those tech tips and pop into the photo gallery for a while
                  Thanks again ya'll

Welcome to the site Chris. I think you will find that the XS's are not any harder to work on than the XJ700. Once you get the first one running and take it for a ride, you will have a grin on your face from ear to ear that won't go away for months.

                        Hi Chris and welcome,
you can buy side mount plate holders out of chopper catalogs but I reckon they make a bike look lopsided and in some States they hand out tickets for sideways mounted plates.
A rear light look that I like is to remove the rear light & mount from the fender to leave it bare.
Fit two red rear signals with twin filament bulbs in them.
Rig the turn signals as stop/tail/turn combos with a 6-way to 4-way trailer light adapter; ~$15 from NAPA.

Thanks for the plate tip! Started looking into it. Found a few good ideas.
                          So, question.
Where do ya'll get your rebuild kits and stuff? I know right now I'll need 2 petcock rebuilds, exhaust gaskets, Seat Bolts, Carb rebuild kits. etc etc.
Lots of good info on this site! Very helpful, very organized.
                          Is there a photo gallery?
