  • yes ... another tach question

First of all I am happy to have my gas gauge working again... replaced the black box on the back of the tach i bought on ebay to replace the original. It never worked when i replaced it about 1 yr ago. I used the old box and wiring and It lives again

Now,... I know somewhere in all these posts, there is something about putting capacitors in line to stop the tach wobble.

I would really be thankful if some one could tell me what size caps and where they go inline...

    TIA
    Shawn

Before you worry about capacitors, be sure to thoroughly clean and check every electrical connector you can find. The tach on SWMBO's 'H used to wobble a bit, then it would outright die, then it would come back and be okay, then it would be wonky again. At the same time, it seemed like her headllight just never really shone too bright. It took a while, and it finally involved removing, cleaning, and reinstalling the individual connector pins from the plastic connector blocks to get rid of the problem. A single dirty connector that is a bit loose at the same time will cause some very interesting problems as it vibrates into and out of contact while you drive.

In all my years on this list, I do not remember anything about caps used to stop tach wobble...maybe I missed it. If you find it, post a link here so everybody else will know where it was.

I don't remember anything like that either. There was a tech tip somewhere (James Ho?) about a carefully aimed shot of WD40 that supposedly fixed it, but I never had the guts to do that. I am sure I would make a mess in the viewable areas. OK, call me a clutz!
