  • idle/mixture/ synch issues

My 79 xs11 just got a 4 to 1 header, with pod air filters, new 7mm plug wires, new coils from MIKES XS, and plugs gapped at 35. I put 155 main jests on 1 and 4 and 157.5 on 2 and 3. i then moved my e-clip towards pointed end on needle to adjust needle, then let mixture screw out 4 turns, put everything together and tried to idle the bike.
I turned choke off, and screwed idle screw out to bare thread. i start the bike and it runs at high rpm. why?

That jetting setup just sounds WAY rich. You should not have to go up that high on your jets. What pilots jets are you using?

I would say keep the needle clip in the center notch to start, if it needs adjusting do it later when you know you need it. For mains I think you could go closer to 140-145 max.

Turn down the main idle speed screw if you havent, might want to synch the carbs, either on the bench, or better yet with some guages. Those jets are pretty large, I'd try 45 pilot and 145 mains across the board. Not to many rejet with the different mix of main jets.
