  • Brake Parts

I'm going to order the parts to rebuild my fron brake calipers and master cylinder. I'm looking at "Parts-n-More" to order these. If you are familiar with them could you please check my part numbers? My bike is a 1979 Special.

    front caliper rebuild kit
    #29-0128 (2 each)

    front master cylinder kit
    #08-0204 (1 each)

    front brake pads
    #29-3522 (2 each)

I'm unsure if the caliper kit is correct mainly.

    Thanks!

The caliper and MC kits you have chosen are correct for a 79 Special, although those brake pads are for the Standard model, they don't list the Special. They will fit the Special rear though. Be aware of left and right side specific for the Special fronts. Not sure who carries the pads you need for the front, I haven't had to order any for mine yet.

The front pads are like these...

Now this one can not be right without looking because the left and right are two different part numbers. They slope opposite directions on the pads.

Those will fit the back brakes, but PNM is not listing the fronts for the Specials that I see. I bought mine from PNM, but that was before the revamp of their site and all.

Yeah, PNM used to list the Special pads but they disappeared on the new site.

Bike Bandit lists them, but you won't like the price; about $37 per side. These are EBC pads, so you might do a search...

Are you sure you need the rebuild kits? You really might not need them and just have clean things.

Thanks all! I didn't order the pads, can get them locally. I do need the rebuilds as the rings were hard as stone. The bike set outside for about 15 years. One step closer...

                Hey CatatonicBug or anyone else..

Those pads you posted the links to... Any experience with them? I like the price, and regardless of whether mine need replacing or not, I think I'll pick up a L and R set.

Just wondering if "parts are parts" or if there is any feedback on those specific pads in terms of quality, performance, durability, etc.

                Thanks in advance!

I've only purchased one set for mine, shortly after I bought the bike. I know there are different brands, and EBC seems to be a preferred one, but fo my money, I'll get the cheapest I can find. Especially since I have had no problems with the no-name ones I got.

BREMZEN lists sintered brake pads for the SG at $30 per side. Wouldn't the SF be the same?

Should be the same. But why pay 30 when you can pay 19?

I know how you feel. I phoned a ringtone company today and asked for a caliper repair kit for my XS1100....
