  • XJ1100 flasher relay

I've seen somewhere that owners use all sorts/models of the flasher relays once they go bad. Does anyone know what type flasher relays work with these bikes? I've seen a number of the three (3) prong flashers at the parts store, just not certain which ones will work.
    Thanks

    Hi Jamie,
a 3-prong automotive flasher won't work because it's wired up differently inside.
What will work is a 2-prong automotive flasher. It plugs into the 3-pin adapter 2 ways; one way works and the other don't.
An electronic flasher works best because it's pulse rate stays the same no matter what bulb load you put on it.
    Alas, the self-canceller won't work.
The only way the self-canceller works is with the stock ($80+!!! for a new one) flasher.
Note that the stock flasher will only work with it's design load of 2 x 27Watt bulbs. More load and it flashes faster, less load and they just come on and stay on.

I couldn't have said it better, Fred. For a while I used a 2 prong flasher on my J (same thing on any XS) until I found one on fleabay. Too bad that the emergency flasher doesn't have the self cancelling feature!!

These can be used if you swap the Y/G and Br/W wires at the flasher plug. I can't say if that allows the self-canceller to work, as I used a 'electronic' flasher and a 'trailer converter' on mine, so it was seeing a oddball load.

If your looking to stay stock. I have the stock flasher from my SH parts bike left. $15 plus shipping which would be $5 to you and get there in two days.

There are a couple of reports about people who managed to remove the cover from the stock unit, clean all the contacts, and reassemble. This may put the OEM unit back into operating condition.
