  • XJ11 bouncy bouncy instrument cluster

I noticed the instrument cluster bouncing like crazy though it looks to be firmly attached. I temporarily wedged a piece of wood in-between the cluster and the black case surrounding the ignition and now it doesn't vibrate. Is there supposed to be some kind of material acting as a dampener so it doesn't vibrate so much?

    Thanks

Yes there is, there are rubber grommets that are in between the speedo/tach and the mounting bracket. Also, the rubber ring that seals out moisture from the units which also shrinks with age. All of this is repairable if you take the cluster off the bike. By looking at it, you should be able to see what needs replacing.

I just recently changed out my tach/speedo computer cluster and tightened down and also added some rubber cushion between the upper cover (the plastic piece that fits over the ignition) and it's great now. Good luck
