Buying a new rear tire

My rear tire is starting to have some dry rot so I am about to replace it. I am deciding between these two:

I've heard both good and bad on the battlaxs, but nothing on the others. I would probably be inclined towards the pireli's if I wasn't so cheap, which means I'm running Kenda Cruisers on mine, and getting about 9k out of the back and what appears to be about twice that out of the front.

You'll get nearly as many opinions as there are members, but it all boils down to what works for you and how/where you ride.

I'll limit my comments to saying that these are both good tires, but being slanted more towards the 'sport' rider, these have softer compounds and tire wear may not be all that you may want. These are popular: http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com...Rear-Tire.aspx , but there are other choices. Money spent doesn't always equal longer tire life...

I will say, you may want to check with your local shops. especially this time of year, they will probably meet or beat those prices and install it for you. JMO

I purchased a bridgestone spitfire for the rear of my 1978 standard with full vetter package and after 3000 miles no complaints. I got the tire for $76.99 shipping included from Jake Wilson.

Im runnin the Pirelli's front and rear. No complaints.

Howdy. Like's been said: to each his own...or something to that affect. Anyway (I dunno' if this has any bearing on tires or not, but..), you might think about the temperature difference in different parts of the country. Tire wear in Bakersfield might be different than it is the "cool" PNW. It's often wet here too. That being said, I just put on new Metzeler 880's front and back, and so far, I like'em. They grip well in the corners and the wet. It remains to be seen how they wear.

I heard the metzler 880 tires were the best and got great wear but I have been very unimpressed by the mileage on the back. I dont spin the wheel but do get into the carbs a lot and have heard that will wear the tire from torque wear though. front tires look like would get at least double the wear. I think I have only about 4 to five thousand on rear and its gone. and the metzler rear is about 150.
