    Help with Hard Bags??

    Well, here's the latest addition to the stable. This has to be the last one...

    It's a '80SG, with some dreaded PO 'improvements'. I have a couple of questions for the collective; first, can anybody identify these bags/trunk?

    These are decent looking bags/trunk, are a 'quick detach' type (all have handles so you can carry them like suitcases) and appear to be genuine Yamaha, but have been obviously 'adapted' to the XS. Anybody???

    I wish I could show the 'stuff' used to fasten the taillight on.... Gotta love those 'backhoe' turn sigs too...

    And how about this speedo? Fits in the housing (although it's loose), but it's neither 160 nor 85 mph...

    Interesting bags! I have never seen that setup before. They look like they are a good size too! The smaller displacement XS's had all sorts of MPH speedos. No biggie, since they all work the same. Looks lie fun! Keep us updated.

      Those bags/trunk are off the early Venture Royal as is the speedo looks like to me. Seem to go with the Vetter Vindicater rather well might add.......

        Man, you've got the sickness bad, buddy.
        Can't blame you for the deals you got. Wish I had the room, I'd do the same.

          Not quite the right shape to be the Venture... after looking at a bunch of pics online, these most closely resemble the bags used on some older models of the FJR but I couldn't find a clear view of a set. The trunk is an obviously matching piece, but must have been an option.

            going broke on bargains, eh?
            The 120mph speedo is from an XS650 but WTF, I put one on my XS11SG when the stocker died and it reads perfect.
            That is, the odometer is accurate while the speedo seems to read a bit slow like most 30 year old Yamaha speedos do.
            That or all the traffic around here is staying 5mph slower than the speed limit.
            Can't help source the bags but that is the widest side bag I've ever seen.
            You got the other one or is it a case of "2 outa three ain't bad"?

              No, I've got both bags. I'm debating whether to just throw them away, or rework the mounting brackets for a proper fit and see if anybody wants to buy them...

              The only thing that's come up missing on this is the rear brake pedal for some reason. The PO said the rear brake 'froze' on him and he had the usual bad time getting it to release. I'm wondering if he removed the pedal and rode it like that...

                Hi Steve,
                you'd have to be living up to your e-name to toss them. That bag set would clean up real nice and be worth real money to someone who wanted them.

                  LOL! Believe me Fred, I hate throwing away anything that's still good, but eventually you run out of room to put all this 'stuff'! Besides the all-of-a-sudden-there's-four XSs, I've also got four Sportsters (two assembled and running), and seven (yep, seven) car projects in various stages of disassembly... storage space is getting thin...

                      Steve, you sound like the PO of Banshee, but you take much better care of your stuff. He had no less than six 280ZXs, at least two old style Camaros, two fiats, and had to be 6 other bikes in the barn. Then there was the misc cars strewn about the yard. Not to mention the jaguar that belongs to his son who cruised up in a mustang. All of this is at the house on 20 acres he no longer lives at!!

                        I've learned my lesson on that over the years. Leaving stuff in 'piles' outside even if covered quickly reduces most of it to scrap in the rainy NW climate.

                        I've got a large three-car garage, but between the two project cars 'stored' inside, all the bikes, tools, and 'good stuff', it's bulging.

                          alas my garage is only an attached two-holer and not the largest of those either. At least it's heated.
                          What with storing 2 sidecar rigs, 2 solos etc. etc. plus the snowblower, the mandate to also have winter parking for the family car in there (failing that, I am tasked to go out at 6 a.m. to start it and scrape the windows) was getting really hard to obey.
                          But what with being able to store the sidecar rigs under the newly enlarged rear deck and my son moving from a rented apartment to buying a small house with a large garage all his junk can move there!
