  • too many wires

    Used 79 XS1100 $500.00
Handfull of electrical splices and connectors. $10.00
Roll of black tape used to clean up a wireing nightmare. .75 cents
finding out where the extra wires go.........Priceless

OK here we go. 2 wire bundles coming through the front of the frame. one has the 3 big connectors to the Tach, Speedo, Center panel etc. And the 2 wires, a blue one and brown one for the rt turn signel.
The other bundle has the red, blue and brown wires to the main switch.the black, yellow and green wires to the headlight the brown and green with yellow stripe for the break switch and the Blue and green wires for the left turn.

Where in the heck do the red and blue wires in the last bundle mentioned go???????????

I didn't get a chance to check if it would run but I am positive the wires that were hooked up when it ran are still hooked up, only better. I solder and heatshrink and then tape all my connections.

        too many wires

        sonic blue 03

According to Clymer's manual there are 2 blue wires in the front harness. one is light blue (no tracer) the other is dark blue (no tracer). Both of these wires hook up to dash lights. ei: gauge face lights. See no solid red wire in front main harness. Only solid red wire goes to main switch. Is ther a tracer on either the red or blue wires? You didn't mention the model of your bike - "SF Special" or an "F Standard"...
Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

both are solid. all the dash lights seem to be working.but the headlight is not working. also the headlight light on the instruments was coming on and off when I started it up earlier. I seem to remember a reserve lighting unit problem occuring when the bikes get older. Can I just jump across this unit to see if the lights work? but I don't know if the bulb is burned out in the headlight. checked the fuse block and one of the tabs is broken to the headlight circuit. also on the headlight circuit is a "red" wire tapped off from the fuse block. one of those may be my problem. It's late and I'm not thinking too clearly at the moment so I'll sleep on it and see how things go after my sons football game. besides my multimeter is acting really wierd and nothing is making sense to me. Any reply is a step closer to wind in my face. So thanks. Any more Ideas?

              Headlight indicator

Speaking of which, my HEAD indicator often comes on even thought the headlight does work. Quite often flicking my headlight to high-beam, then back to low cancels this indicator light after about 1 second of turning back to low. Lately the indicator wants to stay on for extended periods. What's up? Thanks

                          Wiring diagram

I have a "official" Yamaha service manual that covers your bike. If you want, I can send you a copy of the wiring diagram. I have found it a real lifesaver tracing wires the the previous owner decided to change.

That would be wonderful. I know the guy I bought it from changed a great deal of stuff but I am hoping not to much of the wiring. Thanks Again
