    Ignition

[QUOTE=cywelchjr;302609]But it IS an electronic ignition. No points involved whatsoever. If he's talking about electronic advance, all one needs to do is source and install the ignition system from an XJ1100 with it's fully electronic advance system.

Yes. As I understand it the advance is vacuum controlled, which I believe moves the backing plate, which in turn causes damage to the wyres attached.
It was not high on my priority list as the motor runs okay, but if it starts to misfire I will make the change sooner rather than later.
I am currently focussed on getting Yami to handle better.

Only partially vacuum controlled. There is both an RPM advance (actual weights and such on the rotating assy on 80 and older) and vacuum, which is actual mechanical movement of the backing plate on all but the XJ. It's the vacuum advance that is the problem, as that's the one that moves things. However, the wire fix is pretty simple and easy, and if done right AFAIK is permanent. Seems to me to be far simpler to just fix the wires and be done than spend a lot of time installing the different ignition system and getting it dialed in (unless doing EFI at the same time of course). I wouldn't do it just to fix the wires myself.
