I noticed a grease nipple where the shaft goes into the final drive. Is there any special grease that should be used or will any grease work? Thanks:Rick
1980 XS 1100 replaced the seat and sissy bar from a XS 1100 standard and changed the handle bars. Did not like the original bars at all.No mod at all except for a four into one header.
It's basically useless using that nipple. The grease will not go were it is needed.
You really need to take the four bolts that hold the final drive to the swing arm and grease the splines in the shaft and final drive.

Hi Rick,
like the Tinman sez, that nipple don't send grease anywhere that it needs to be and you need to pull the final drive to put grease into the actual spline.
Do it now because you dunno when it was last greased.
Re-grease the spline every time you replace the rear tire.
Use as high a %age molybdenum disulphide grease as you can find.
