  • Different jets?

Did my first carb clean today. Everything came out great, got cleaned up and reassembled. Pilots were clogged up but amazingly did not have lots of crud/varnish in the bowls. Have not installed yet.
While checking, I came up with 137.5 main jet, 45 pilot jet and 210 pilot air.
Supposedly stock pilot jet should be 42.5 and 180 for pilot air.
PO had a Kerker 4 into 1 when I bought the bike in 1983 with 7,000 miles. He must have swapped jets for the Kerker.
Later I put a Super Trapp 4 into 1. Bike has always started easy almost no choke, idles great at about 1000 rpm's. I mostly just cruise and in hway do about 75, 80 mph.
What effect good or bad can this cause.

    SOFA filter.
    Venture cam chain adjuster.
    Tkat fork brace.
    Progressive fork springs.

The jets really effect the fuel mixture. If you feel the bike is running good and the plugs show it is running good with the jets you have, then like the old saying goes, if it ain't broke, don't fix it!!

Your Supertrap may be different than the Kerker, but it is still not stock. And if your running POD filters instead of the factory air box, that to will effect the jetting required. I'd say you did not change the system enough swapping the Kerker to the Supertrap to change the jetting required.
Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

When your work speaks for itself, don't interrupt.

Something I just recently learned is that the first 100 79F's produced were set up like the 78E, with different jetting and hot cams. If you have a very early 79F, this might be the case with the pilot jetting of 45/210.
