  • incorrect carb kits on ebay

I purchased these kits a little while ago
    specifically for the pilot jets,
after fitting the pilot jets the bike
began to run to rich, when i removed the jets and
measured them they were a size equivalent to a 50 pilot jet,
the jets also had 8 bleed holes compared to the mikuni's 6.
so just letting you guys know, dont go buying these kits for
    the pilot jets.
i sent the seller a msg but never heard back.

    I am with you

I ordered the same kits thinking that I was getting a good deal.. It took me a while to find out that the pilot jets were wrong.. Thanks to DGXSER that told me about that issue of those jets.. I just recently went to the local Yamaha dealer and got the correct ones for $10. You also have to watch the needle and seat as well. I had problems with the o-rings not fitting right. I guess that was a lesson learned..

Unfortunately, there are a number fo sources for parts that do not seem to know the details of these bikes. It has taken me almost two years to get to the point I am at.

The worst part is, they sell the kits not knowing what they are selling and users like us get stuck. One thing to note, is that almost every year of these bikes they changed something about the carbs and their internals. So if you see a "one size fits all" add like that, beware.

i sent them a msg last nite
        and this was his response

        Dear petejw1966,

the kits is only for oem carbs, not meant for any other spec, pls check oem pilot jet size is 42.5 http://www.bikebandit.com/houseofmot...1100lg/o/m8242

i sent them back a reply stating that i wasnt disputing the fact the jets are marked 42.5 but the whole in the jet isnt a size 42.5 but 50.

if any1 buys these kits and having troubles pls write back to the seller
        and let them know.

I buy all my XS11 rebuild kits from Georgefix. He is on ebay and has opened a seperate webstore. Someone said it is still linked to ebay though.

George does know the differences between years and what jets go with the carbs.

The pilot jets come in at least three different styles that will screw right into our carbs like they were right off the assembly line. The VM style has eight holes instead fo six. The N151 style has no holes at all (in the sides that is). And the BS30/96 style, the correct ones for our bikes, have six holes.

plus one for georgefix for carb stuff

I can confirm good luck dealing with georgefix, have talked to him on phone and he seems knowledgeable, I have bought two kits one for xs and one for gs 11, both worked out fine. I also have emailed the vendor sporting4less for this low quality kit mentioned above. He seemed just a little too flip in his answers in email, and I thought that was a neg against them. As I recall he had bizarre pricing/shipping costs on some stuff at that time, so I went with georgefix and have been happy. Am about to buy another kit from him for this latest 79 Special also.

ive got the drill bits and size 40 and 42.5 jets to compare
the sizes, and these jets in those kits are still to big,

funny when i mentioned i was on this site and others
had the same problem he got back to me pretty quickly,
he says he will check with the manufacturers and get back to me.

                    ill wait and see.

I use pin gauges to check the size. I run the quality lab at night here and drill bits arn't accurate. I used a size 55 standard drill bit and 2 jets ended up being 132 and 2 were 131. I'll see what the charts say about the jets.

Fom what I have seen elsewhere, all three use a different coding method, based upon the following: -Mikuni jets are marked with their flow rate -ie: 150 = a rating of 150 cc of fuel per minute. -Dynojet jets are marked with the diameter of the hole in the jet -ie: DJ150 = 150mm hole. -Keihin, well, I haven't seen a good rationale for these?

ive read similar things on the internet,
but not from mikuni or dynojet them selves,
so i dont know how accurate any of them are.

ive got genuine mikuni jets from 110 to 130 and the corresponding drill
                            bits fit perfectly, .

                              Georgefix

I shopped around for carb rebuild kits and found some sellers call a float needle assembly and float bowl gasket a 'rebuild kit'. Hardly a comprehensive set of components!

I bought 4 kits from Georgefix, who answered my several questions re jet sizes. He sent me four kits at cost price on shipping by airmail to the UK and I received them in less than a week. Loads of jets, needle, clip, gasket, float assembly etc. I fitted them all, put the carbs back on and the bike fired up first time and runs perfectly. It's an amzing improvement.

Georgefix's kits for my bike were good quality, I'd say, well packed and containing everything you need.
