FWIW, I get it and you havent offended me, and I threw the octy over the neighbours fence years ago. One or two may still be a little raw from recent events but for the most part we all respect everyones right to be different, and any valid opinions are welcome. Not always agreed with, but welcome none the less.

I bought mine new, and it didn't take long to recognize my bikes' shortcomings... even in 70s/80s terms.

While it's nice to see a clean original example, OEM-only doesn't cure the flimsy forks and marginal brakes, not to mention the wiring. And not everyone can track down all-original bits or pay out the kind of money that it can take to bring one back to all stock; price a duplicate-of-OEM paint job for just one.

While I occasionally cringe when I see some owners chop up a reasonably complete unmolested original, I see more that a few that I wouldn't hesitate to modify due to their condition. At least that way they're still on the road...

I feel as if my note on the octy thread may have created this public apology. First of all, I apreciate your doing so, and it was not necesary in my opinion.

I will also acknowledge that alot of people DO get hot headed about non-stock stuff, and the more you vary from stock the more "un-impressed" some folks will be. We are on a site that has the underlying intention of preserving these machines afterall. I get that.

However, with "guy talk" and the like, if someone you know starts off the conversation like the barber shop scene in GranTarino both laugh and carry on.

But if someone you do not know says it, or your friend says it with a straight or angry face, then no one is laughing.

Unfortunately, while I consider folks here to be very friendly and do care about them, Most I do not know enough to know if they are joking or serious about such things. And the medium we are using does not allow the reader to see the body language or the facial expression behind the verbage. So, I choose to soften my language and be very informative with either smilies or clarification of my intention. I learned early on in the world of email how quickly what would normally have been a decent conversation can turn into posturing and berating documentation.

So when we think folks have thin skin, it could only be because we had no idea something was not intended as harsh as it might have been taken.

And clearly the past has shown this can get out of hand and lead to some very very heated "discussions". Which turns into no fun for anyone. Kind of like that great fun party when a fight breaks out and then everyone just goes home sad or angry.

Not that OEM was anywhere near that level, or anything seemed to be heading that direction, just trying to be proactive to keep things from going down that path.

I too see the advantage of some mod's, fuse box and others. I sometimes champion the OEM results Yamaha achived way back in the 70's and I get carried away sometimes. I respect your choise to do as you see fit to your bikes and my harmless banter (at least what I see as harmless) is just ment in fun, like two guys saying " (your HD sucks, no, your Yamaha sucks or the octy is crap, no way, your full of crap)" I didn't realize so many were so sensitive, will keep my oppinions to my self. No harm intended, just guy talk

For some people, saying something, anything, negative about their bikes is like saying something, anything, negative about their wifes or girlfriends. This being the case some can be easily offended and I understand that.
So far as keeping the bike stock goes, to each his own. I prefer stock myself including the bikes shortcomings for one bike and modified for the other. After all, owning one of these bikes is a hobby for many users.

Sorry, but I disagree with your decision to refrain from offering your opinion as many times this place in not one to keep your opinion to yourself. If fact many posts start or end with the phrase "what do you think", which clearly implies give "me your opinion". As long as everyone acts like an adult and states their opinion on the bike, the mod, the paint etc we should all be able to play together in the sandbox together. When someone crosses over to commenting on a persons IQ or lineage than it gets messy in a hurry. There are plenty of threads that are 100% opinions that do not erupt into flame wars, I think it would be regrettable if you choose not to offer yours when asked. And +1 on the apology, once things go done the wrong path someone has to step up and throw in the towel

This site is about ways to maintain build repair and keep them on the road. If someone doesn't want someone's opinion then that person better buy a manual and stay off the site. If you ate going to ask or show or involve other people in your project you better grow up and be able to listen others opinions

I agree on no apology needed though. I like the stock look ( for standards anyway

) but my bike is certainly not stock. Who am I to care if you like your 1.5 coils and such?
