  • Sta-Bil

I started using Sta-Bil and I'm now getting 40+ mpg. Before I started using it I was averaging under 30 mpg. Is this possible that this additive would make that much of a difference in mpg? I rode exactly 100 miles and used just over 2 gallons of gas. Like maybe 2.25 gallons which comes out to 44.4 mpg. And, this is after I put the Vetter fairing back on. I've used seafoam before with no noticable difference.

No, stabil won't do that. Changing how you ride will and the fairing many have helped. I have been using stabil in plenty of different engines for year and never seen anything like that.

Same here. I get a 5gal gas can filled once/year for all my lawn equipment, and since learning about it, I switched from using StaBil to now using Seafoam in it to keep the fuel fresh all year. It has more cleaning attributes than StaBil too.

I have had a small container of stabil around for like 5 years and just about a week ago got sick of it and dumped it in some kerosene I have just to get rid of it. Put about 3 oz in about 1.5 gallons but the stabil is gone!

I avoid using Sea foam as a fuel stabilizer like the plague. The only time I have had any problem with winter storage is when I used Sea foam. I like it for a cleaner etc, but I beleive it reacted with the alcohol/ethanol that is in our gas and gummed everything up. That said I am going to try Sta-bil this year and hope I do not get similar results. Up to a couple of years ago all I did was shut the petcocks, run the carbs out of fuel and leave it alone for the winter. 30 yrs or so with no problem until Sea foam makes me dislike the product for this use.

I agree with basically everything he has to say. I have never used the marine stabil so I can't comment. And any cleaner that you add to a system can cause problems with breaking crux loose. They are doing their job by cleaning the crud off. That is something the the owner needs to evaluate prior to use, or gamble however one wants to look it

Personally, I've been using sta-bil for storage on all of my seasonally used equipment for decades, This includes winter stored equipment (motorcycles, lawn mowers, pressure washers, etc.), and summer stored equipment (salt trucks/plow vehicles, snow blowers etc.) and have always had good results.
Where possible to drain the fuel bowl(s) before storage, I run the engine long enough with sta-bil added to the fuel to ensure that it has been running on the stabilized fuel before I shut it down and drain the bowl(s). Where draining the bowl(s) is not feasible (or possible), I still run the equipment after adding the sta-bil long enough to be sure the treated fuel gets itself throughout the whole fuel system.

I used Sta-bil for years, because I had never heard of anything else. I added the proper amount to a fuel can for my lawn equipment, and used that one can all year long. Of course, Sta-bil has no cleaning properties, and does not claim to. Seafoam, on the other hand, DOES have cleaning properties, and is made of the same stuff that fuel is made of. I tried using Seafoam in my 5-gal fuel can this last winter, and have seen absolutely no negative effects on my lawn equipment. I even used that same fuel (in an aux fuel tank) to sync a friend's bike a few weekends ago, and it worked fine. I added Seafoam to the tank in my generator last fall (then ran the carb dry), and 6 months later, it started right up with no problems. I don't expect ANY fuel additive to do a thorough job of cleaning carbs, and a proper disassembly and cleaning regimine is the only real way to really get them clean. However, I'll keep using Seafoam as a stabilizer with cleaning properties whenever I need something to serve that purpose.

                              What about Marvel Mystery Oil?

Seems to be just a lightweight mineral oil - good for upper cylinder lubrication - but what are the gas additive qualities it has?

                              Will it help anything?
