did the whole lever come off or just the top part that you put your thumb on?

The inner part of that thumb switch is glued to a plastic piece inside the housing with a bunch of contacts on it. If you've still got the pieces you might be able to epoxy it back together if the inner plastic piece didn't break. You should have the thumb piece itself that attaches to the inner metal piece, the inner metal piece, and a small square shaped metal spring thing that goes around the metal piece and between the thumb switch and the housing (sorry for all the technical terms ). If you don't have all the parts your probably going to need to find another switch assembly, but it doesn't necessarily have to be a working switch. You can transplant the hi/lo parts from one switch to another.

        Hi Troy,
for $46 why fight with it?
        http://www.mikesxs.net/products-51.html#products
Item #24-2058 or $3 extra for #24-2061 to get a chrome one.
Note that the wiring could be coloured differently and the plug style/wire placement may not be the same.
Nothing that a multimeter couldn't find out for you.

That might work if you want to give up the 4 ways, but it doesn't have all the parts we need on the newer bikes. I wish that we could convince Mike to officially support the 11's as well, but there probably isn't enough of a market for that, and he's apparently a rabid 650 enthusiest.

              Hi Cy,
yeah, I'd have to give up the 4-ways on my '80 but AFAIK the '80 was the first year that had them and Troy's bike is a '79.
