  • Air Box Install

The PO of this bike had different ideas of how the air box mounted and lost most of the parts. I found most everything I needed but was having a terrible time trying to mount the air box, until I tried this method. I thought I would pass it along in case anyone wanted to try it this way.

I used zip ties to make it look like a porcupine.

Then I pulled the zip ties up through the mounting brackets.

Then I simply pushed the bolts in as I pulled the zip ties out. This was so easy and fast that I thought I buggered it up. I know I will do it this way again after I get everything fixed up and painted for the final assembly.

    Doug,

The holes where you have the ties is where the 'permanent' bolts go to fasten the brackets. These brackets secure the back of the AB to the tabs on the frame. The brackets are supposed to be afixed to the AB not to the frame. Then you just use the side bolts to secure the AB.
Hope I didn't muddle this explanation too bad.

Haha I wish I had remembered that tidbit of info yesterday. I just knew it needed to get where it is and had to come up with a way to get it back there. I think he had removed it from there to get the carbs off. Thanks for reminding me how it was supposed to go. Too bad I did not search or ask before the time waste of yesterday.

I may have to utilize something like this as well. I bought an air box off of ebay and it lacks some of the hardware.

I ended up with all the pieces just could not figure a good way to get all the bolt holes lined up. I used the zip ties simply to line every thing up and keep it that way until I could push the bolts in. I would go to pods before I ever would try mounting the air box this way, but it sure worked good for lining everything up.
