  • Head light indicator light on?

    Hey Fella's,

So I had recently replaced the headlight relay and turn signal controls, along with updating the fuse box to modern fuses (all work done at a local shop). I took a 5 day ride to San Diego and back and on the way back the left turn signal was blinking intermittently when I engaged it, sometimes blinking super fast, or just not at all. This has been the case for the past few days. Today I start her up and the headlight and turn signals are not working and the Headlight indicator light, below the oil indicator light, is on but I don't know what this means. Any help here would be awesome.

    Thanks!!
    Mike

Take it back to the shop and have them redo/check their work.

Usually, when a turn signal blinks faster, it's because there's an extra load in the circuit. (Like when you pull a trailer with your truck... the trailer lights are added to the truck's turn signal circuit, cause an extra load and the lights flash quicker.)

The headlight indicator light comes on to let you know that the low beam is burnt out. (The high beam is on, but at a reduced intensity)

Yeah, the shop made an error somewhere. Something's possibly shorting somewhere in the wiring harness. Get a hold of the shop and give them a chance to repair it.

Thanks for the info, the low beam and high beam are both non functional. I looked at the bulb and both high and low coils don't look broken so that's why I'm especially confused. The turn signals didn't do the intermittent blinking until fairly recently, which is a few weeks after the work was done. So the head light and turn signals are completely non functional. I checked the fuses and they all look great. Are the turn signals tied into the Headlight Relay at all? Could that have gone out? I'm going to take the bike into them next paycheck but if it could be related to the relay, i'd like to have another on order, just in case.

      Thanks again,
      Mike

No, the signals are not related to the headlight relay at all. They should come on without the engine running, where the headlight does not.

It sounds like you have a nasty short somewhere. You might open up the left handlebar switch housing and trace the wires in there. The headlight dimmer switch goes through there, as do the signals. You said that was something they worked on at the shop, so I would look there first.
