Looks like a very nice start to a great ride. I'd start on the list of thing sin the "what to look for in a neglected XS" in the FAQ section. And all the maintenance items in the manual. Get it running and riding right, then you can worry about the cosmetics.

Hey Jim,
Welcome to the site and congrats on your buy. I have seen that bike for sale and it looked like a good one. I live in Oswego NY and recently graduated from RIT... This is great, central NY's are gaining in numbers! Member phantymwulf lives in Rochester as well.
What are your plans for the bike? Are you considering stripping all the touring stuff or do you want to keep it? Looks like all you need is some saddlebags to complete the look... If you have any questions let us know or do a little search on the site. Luckily everyone has already made many mistakes for you and have written about it so you dont have to make them.'79 XS11 F

You are so much closer riding it than I am (in my project), but these bikes have such a great reputation, I say slug along and finish it off.
If you are expecting to get rich off of it... ain't gonna happen.
If you want something that's real fun... you got it!

That bike looked like it had a lot of potential. It shouldn't take but some tinkering to get that baby in rip ready condition. Just get it to the point where you can ride it to put some miles on it. If you do that much and get a little taste for what its capable of you'll be wanting more. You will have the entire winter to go through the bike...'79 XS11 F
