There is so much in here about this I am having a hard time finding what I need so I will ask specifically regarding my 82 XJ. I have installed 1157 LED tail/brake light bulbs. I am looking for info on how or what to use so my info center will recognize that the tail light is working. I converted my rear directionals to LED (front are still standard bulbs) and have extra LED lights on either side of the tail light for brake lights. I have also added (2)55w driving lights and headlight is 55w/100w with no problems (so far, knock on wood)

I don't know how the XJ works in particular, but typically, these 'light monitor' circuits work by sensing load (the amount of current used by the light or lights). So installing a LED lamp reduces the current to the point the circuit thinks the light is bad.
The fix? Well, the easy fix would be to reinstall a conventional bulb. If you're bound and determined to use the LED, try connecting a 10 ohm resistor from the power wire to the lamp to ground. Use at least a 25 watt rated resistor, and mount it someplace where it won't melt anything as it will get hot. This will mimic the load and should turn the warning light out. It will also consume just as much power as the regular bulb...Fast, Cheap, Reliable... Pick any two

There are load simulatin resistors, and they sell them next to the LED bulbs at AutoZone. However, installing them completely negates the whole purpose of using LEDs in the first place (reducing load). I'm not sure how the XJ senses those bulbs, but the only real way to continue to use LEDs and not have the idiot light tell you the bulb is dead would be to disconnect the idiot light.1980 XS850SG - Sold
