Today, I was tracing down some minor issues with my bike (brake and tail lights where no longer working). After wheeling it to the shop and pulling the tank/seat/side covers, I was all ready to start tracing things out when I decided to pull the tail light lens first.
Only to find that both bulbs where broken due to the inner diffuser having come loose and hit them while they where hot! Easy fix: glue diffuser back into position and install a couple of new bulbs...
That left we a whole lot more time to work on other things than I expected, so I decided to FINALLY tackle that sticking/pain in the butt to turn off turn signal switch!
And, needless to say, taking it apart, cleaning everything up (grime out of the hardware and oxidation and crud off all the contacts, then greasing it up and putting everything back together went very quickly. The reason it was such a pain to turn off the left signal was a bent contact and general stickiness of the switch is the reason it was such a pain in the butt to cancel (along with bent contact...). It operates like a new switch now!
I've been fighting with this stupid switch for over 20 YEARS and it only took 30 minutes to fix...
