  • Can't seem to find a '82 XJ1100 air filter

On my girlfriend's '82 XJ1100 we just got, with 45k on it or so, the filter looks almost original. It's THAT FOUL. No cleaning will help here.

    So. order a new one.

Local Yamaha dealership says no way. On back order, can't locate any, Yamaha's not making anymore.

    Great.

So I pull up Xtreme Powersports, a recommended place to order parts online. Ordered up an oil filter and an air filter. No problem. No phone calls, no emails, no nada saying there was a problem....

Box just arrived. A small box. With one oil filter. Marked on the receipt in messy handwriting is "BO" next to the air cleaner. No call, no email, no offer to refund, no nada.

    Great!

So, need to call them up and get a refund, and they better refund some of the shipping too. I'm not gonna pay $15 to ship a $6 oil filter!

Now, where do I find an air filter???

Any help is appreciated. I'm rather frustrated.

    Not to be found anywhere!!

    Smash,
I have an XJ and the air filters are not to be had anywhere. I think I saw someone who found them for about $60 but when I checked.... nada buddy.
What some members have done is strip the original frame of the filter, create a support frame for the filtering material and use filtering foam or use the K&N material off a good K&N filter!!
Those are your options. I know, I have an XJ and baby my filter like my first born.
    Good luck.

Ok. Thanks for the news, even if it isn't that great. Sigh.

Anyone have any photos on how to rebuild the OEM filter with new material?

Smash, if you have any chance of getting an OEM air filter it will probably be from Bikebandit, P/N 1145748. Lists for $53.04, it says they have them.

          Smash,
I bought a new one recently from Yamaha... around $65.

Got it from the local Yamie dealer here in Tulsa... about 3 months ago.

Unless Yamaha has sold out of all the NOS's... maybe my dealer cam help?
They had to order it, took a few days, they called, I went in and picked it up.

A fellow named Randy Pine sold it to me.

Might be worth checking it out??

Dealership said they called around and couldn't find one, and yami didn't have any more either.

I'll try calling bike bandit. I'm not going to give anyone else any more money until I know for sure they have one!

                  XJ K&N air filter

Smash I have built a K&N filter for my XJ using the original frame.
I have pix and will post the same later this week.
I have enough material for two additional filters left over. I will require some $ for the material, will let you know.
In operation the filter works great, no resizing of jets required. Last longer that I will.

Dangit! Placed an order this morning through K&N for a filter. Thanks for the offer on media though!

Some pics would be great, would rather get this right the first time.

Awesome pics thank you! I think the foam is in ok shape, otherwise we'll go find something to use in it's place.
