    Idle changes?

    Greetings all!
    I was wondering if anyone else had this phenonema? With my 79 xs1100f on the sidestand...I start the motor. As I lift the bike up into a riding position...the R.P.M.s change quite a bit (increasing). I have noticed that the P.O. had installed what appears to be "back flow" preventors (clear, plastic diaphram looking things).
    While the bike runs strong and they don't seem to affect performance..I had considered removing them one day.

      Does the idle change at all if you turn the handlebars lock to lock?

          No. The idle stays consistent no matter which direction I turn the bars.

              I am thinking they might be fuel filters.

              Do you still have the octy or was it removed?

              If you still have the octy I am thinking the throttle cable is getting a little hung up, like natemeon suggested.

              I removed my octy and if I am low on fuel my rpms do change a little when I pull the bike off the side stand.

              In either case the filters might be getting clogged and you might want to change them out.

                  If possible some pictures of the "back flow presenters" would be very helpful!

                      It's a Standard - no Octy.

                      Do you have a full tank of fuel? IIRC, on the '79, the two sets of carbs do not share fuel between the petcocks. If the Right petcock is not getting fuel while on the sidestand, the carbs connected to that petcock won't be firing. Once you stand up the bike and level out the fuel, they can fire again.

                      Try disconnecting the fuel line from the right side petcock while the bike is on the sidestand (and running) and see if fuel comes out.

                      It might also be a sticky float, and once you straighten the bike up, the float can... float... again. I had an opposite issue a while back, and I had to make sure that I shut the bike off while it was still upright, or a float would stick and not allow the valve to close, dripping a bit of fuel into the airbox on occasion.
