  • My SF is back on the road!! Woo-Hoo!!

Well, last May 4th, I wrecked my SF due to a stuck throttle. I ended up running smack into a high curb head on at about 30 mph and flipped the bike (and me). Damage was relatively mild (to the bike....), bent front wheel, bent forks, bent triple tree, bent handlebars, busted headlight, right side signals, headlight bucket got dented up, bent ears, mangled front fender, and muffler got pinched pretty badly.
I found an '81 that I was going to use for parts....but it was too clean to tear apart, so I bought parts from a few great guys on the forum, a few parts came from fleabay and a few more from the local bike salvage yard.
Today is the day......it's back on the road and even better than before in my opinion. I deviated from stock on a few of the parts, but it looks pretty cool.
Fortunately it rides straight and smooth. No wobbles, shakes, or shimmies. When I take my hands off the bars, it rolls straight and true!! WHEW!!!
I replaced and rebuilt the forks and painted the sliders black.
I massaged the headlight bucket and painted it black.
    I used 'cafe' style ears.
I went with aftermarket small style blinkers.
    Bar-end mirrors.
Black super-bike bars....but I think I'm going to replace them with black clubman bars.
Replaced the exhaust with a black four into one that tucks up nicely under the bike and retains the center-stand.
Next is to have a set of MNS wheels powder coated red and replace the tires with Dunlop's.
    Happy day.

      Stck Throttle

So, what was the cause of the throttle problem? If I remember correctly you hurt your shoulder as well, you are YOU doing?

The cable came apart right outside of the throttle, kinked and wouldn't release. I'm okay......shoulder needs surgery though. Putting it off until December or January so I don't miss out on any good riding!!
          Thanks for asking.

            Pre-flight checks

Glad your back in the saddle. Pre-flight checks are always a good idea. Sometimes we get lazy, but these are 30 year old machines.Stay safe man and good riding.
