  • "Transmission" shaft threaded "cap"

Wow, I really wish there was a parts dictionary in the manual, everything seems to have 10 different names, anyhow.
The shaft, on which the clutch basket rides, has a small threaded plug with a slot for a standard screw driver on the end. When I pulled off the star plate it had come loose and was sitting inside the clutch basket. (Luckily, I'm in the middle of the Dremel 1ST/ 2ND fix, so I haven't been riding lately.)
The question is how far should this be screwed back in, and is there a way to prevent it from coming out again?

Can you post a picture of the part you are referring to? I just can't picture it in my mind...

Can you see anything in this thread that looks familiar?

If you look in the middle of the main shaft, you see a slot that fits a standard screw driver. That's the end of the piece that screws in and out of the center of the shaft. It managed to come all the way out.

Not 100% sure, but I think that cap is there to keep oil from coming out that end, as oil is pumped thru the shaft to lubricate internal transmission gears. If you clean the plug and threads with brake cleaner, you should be able to apply some thread lock and screw it back in all the way and it should stay put.
