Which replacement shocks?

Thanks guys for all the replys. A pair of Progressive shocks with HD springs seems like the fix. Hope to get them ordered in the next couple weeks.

I just bought a set of 2000 Honda Shadow 1100 Showa rear shocks to try on my G. After installing the Progressive spings in the forks and dropping them about 5/8" and adjusting the rear springs all the way up, I really noticed an improvement in the handling of the bike. But the rear end still displays its shortcomings. The previous mods really got rid of the Lazy Boy ride feeling, but the rear end still doesn't feel surefooted. Around the twisties, of which I'm lucky to have nearby here in flat FL, the wallow is present and quite disconcerting. Not unsafe but not solid either, and when you're trying to do a little peg scraping it can get somewhat intimidating.
The Showas have multiple adjustments: dampening, spring compression, and rebound. They are also much newer technology items and they're made for heavier bikes like our beloved ones.
Randy installed them on one of his bikes w/out a lot of modifying and is very happy with them. They look good too, three chrome cylinders working in unison(sp?).
I'll keep you posted, they should be here this weekend and I'll write a report on them.

i bought the same 12.75 shocks that the lad did and they work fine no complaints ,,i weigh 240 lbs and the ride is smooth ,,ride safe ,,slow mo!

Progressive HD is way to go...

Especially if you ride 2 up.

I bought some 418's with 230/270 springs. Ride with wife and it handles great.

I am 240 + 200 for rider (don't even mention this post if you meet us ever or I will be in hot H2O) so HD springs are a necessity. Even riding single seems fine.

Recommend this upgrade.

I don't know if they have compression dampening adjustment. They do have the spring pre-load and "dampening" adjustment. Even the Showa website doesn't offer much help with information.

Thanks for the info. I'm about the same weight so I should be good, I hope. I like a tight riding bike. Just trying to minimize the wallow in the turns.

I would have done the same thing but the wallet is kind of thin now, and couldn't find any deals but this one on ebay.

Hey, they're newer, with newer technology, made for a bike of approximately the same weight, and for $42 including shipping it was a no brainer for me.
Hope they don't show me up as brainless fool....
