  • center stand and header

Just picked up My 79 F today. only then did I notice the center stand was missing. I have acess to a donor bike in the local salvage yard and could get one but I don't know if it will fit. The header sweeps underneath but it may have enough clearance. The pipe does not have the Kerker badge on it so I don't know what kind it is. I have heard that the Kerker requires removal of the stand . Had a KZ750 with a kerker that was a tight fit but I was able to leave the stand on. So my question is Can a center stand fit with a 4 into 1 pipe. the local salvage yards have a no return at all no matter what policy. Having not seen what the stand configuration is I don't know what clearance issues I will have.

I have a similar issue with Black Ice , a special with a four into one exhaust, and with SWMBO's 'H , a lowered standard. The centrestand will bolt on okay, but it hangs so low it is impossible to ride. I still use a centrestand for servicing, and just leave it in the shed when not needed. YYou may want to go ahead and buy one just for servicing.

I have a Jardine header which does not have any badging and is similar to the Kerker. My centerstand does still fit ok. I ended up removing it for appearance sake and put it on when needed for servicing.

        Hey there SonicBlue,

If you'll look at the SpinOnFilter thread, amongst the pictures is a wide shot of the adapter with filter, but also of "My" 4-1 headers and the center stand in use!! Mine were a cheap JCW set I bought over 10+years ago, they(JCW) no longer sell them!!! They came with a special bar that bolted onto the left side to keep the center stand from retracting too far up against the frame and hitting the pipes that ran thru them!! HTH.

I have 2 Kerkers, centerstand works fine with one, not with the other. I believe they made a couple different systems for different performance levels? Seem to recall reading this in cats back in their heyday in the 80's. I would definitely get one for servicing as previously suggested. It is not necessary to hook up the spring and such to use, just slip the bolts in and hoist the bike up. Be sure you get the bolts with it, they have big shoulders on them and regular bolts won't work very well. Wouldn't hurt to get the spring too, in case it works ok with your header.

Thanks guys. I'll pick one up anyway like you suggested for a maintenance stand.

It can be a real pain to reattach the centerstand with the spring.

I have a trick to hook that nasty spring up, it is hard to describe but I will try to write it up if you are interested
