  • xs11 Wont start

    Bike ran fine home from work,,,,Then right in front of garage,,1st gear almost stalled,,,Bike has spark, getting fuel,,,Please help,,,,
    I heard that it could be pick-up coil, not sure.

    Based upon what you've given us....
    Carbs getting fuel...
    I assume all plugs are sparking(which rules out the pick-up coils)...
    The only thing left is timing.
    Timing chain possibly jumped a tooth or two.
    Do a compression check. If the chain jumped and you've bent a few valves the compression check would show it. Standard compression reading should be around 142lbs.

        does it sound like it wants to start when
        cranking the engine over?

        not sure of the model bike you have,
        but if its the earlier model 78/79 there fitted
        with a ballast resistor under the tank that can play up.

          Any time an engine just stops working for no reason I recommend a compression check. Most will check spark by pulling the plugs so its easy to run the compression test while the plugs are already out. If compression is good and you have spark, confirm the timing followed by basic electrical tests of the ignition system.

            And please put the model of what model XS that you have as there are some differences.Do you have enough fuel in tank?Check the obvious things first,did you hit the kill switch by accident?
