    Thanks for the advice

I have a 79 1100 xs special. The pedlocks seem to be okay. I pulled the carbs and found the following problems

    1. Two of the diaphrams were not seated properly.
    2. The float in the number 1 carb was really high compared to the other three
    3. I don't know what this part is called, but is sits on top of the shaft that the diaphram slides into. It's gold in color has a small hole and screws into this saft from the bowl side. Any way it's broken. Was able to the piece out of the shaft. Will try and hunt this part down tomorrow.

    Hey there Teck,

That part that fits in from the bowl side is called the MAIN SCREW, but itself doesn't screw into place, just slides into place, it has a notch cut into it that aligns with the carb body. But it actually fits in from the top side/diaphragm side sliding into place, then the MAIN JET and washer screws into it from the bowl side to hold it in place and provide the metering effect from the main jet thru it, it is the atomizer tube/ venturi type that adds/mixes air with the fuel before it is sucked into the engine!

Folks here on the FORUM should be able to help you in getting that piece vs. having to get it from YAMAHA, "IF" you can!? Good work in finding the problems, sounds like that was the main reasons why it wasn't running so well, and once you fix them, I'm pretty sure it should run much better!!! Check those rubber diaphragms very well for small holes/leaks which can effect their performance.
