  • Carb rebuild kit

Has anyone tried the kits from these guys?

    http://www.carbkitscapital.com/carb_...a&model=XS1100

I'm planning on a overhaul of the carburators as fast as the season is over (which will be damn soon where I live.......). The ad does not display any info about the jet sizes etc. so I guess they are like the stock carburation?
Also they offer two separate kits for 1978 and 1979 years, the '79 kit seems to have the washer under the blind plug in the pilot jet tube in addition...

    Now, Im running:

    Main: 130
    Pilot: 40
    Pilot Air: 180
    Emolusion: 266 x-2

Plug color are fine, light tan, maybe a todd too lean. I also have the stumbling when twisting the throttle slightly from 2500 - 3000 rpms. I sort of hope that the carb rebuild will cure that, but am prerpared to be disappointed.....
    E.0.

    1978 XS1100E, Marshall 4-1, otherwise stock
    VIN#:2H9005181

I have not but they look pretty straight forward.

If you get the ones with main and pilot jets, I suggest you check the jets out carefully because some of the jets in these aftermarket kits (especially the pilots) can do funny things when installed.

Once you un-can a can of worms, the only way to re-can them is with a bigger can.

Stock jets on US models (78-79) are 137.5 and 42.5 . That would richen you up a little, probably work fine.

          What kit?

Should I go for the '79 kit over of the '78 since it (from the photos) seems to include more parts? My bike is a '78.

Yes, have the stock air filter (which desperatly needs replacement). I expect the K/N stock-like filter is the way to go, even if they are a bit costly. Are they much superior to the OEM paper filter?

          Thanks, have a nice day

Go with the right year/model kit, some changes were made from year to year and just to be sure later when you are "tunning" you will not have to wounder. "is it that 79 kit" The K&N filter is fine, last a life time And with a 30 year old bike, what is a life time. What is a few bucks on these bikes You can buy one in great shape on ebay for $2,000.00, or you can fix one up for just a few thousand more to be a great bike. It is not about the money, if it were we would all be looking for a H/D pan head to through our money at
