  • field testing of cam chain tensioner

Ok, I have done some serious road testing of the modification. Since I put it on this spring I have about 15,000 miles on the mile eater. I have run the bike as far North and East as Lake Champlain in Vermont, to San Diego in the South West, been to 10,000 feet on US212 along the Wyoming/Utah border, screamed across Nevada roads at 100mph in 100+ degrees and the bike took it all in stride. I am ready to call it successful

CCT type and short IB5000 update

the tensioner is from a 1st gen venture, it is an automatic adjustment which helps out on these longer rides. I think if you search on venture tensioner you will find the details. I was not clever enough to figure figure out this upgrade but liked the idea and installed it. there was some discussion around long term relaibiloty so I thought I would let others know my results.

In the IB5000 I was 7th after leg 1, that leg started and ended in Denver and my route went north looping up through Butte, Montana ending up just shy of 2000 miles. If anyone gets a chance you really need to ride US212 just to the East of Yellowstone, it is an awesome patch of road and possibly one of the best rides in the country.

Leg 2 was longer and was hot, stinkin hot, and then stinkin hot and humid. I left Denver early Wed morning and shot out through Las Vegas, Joshua Tree National Park ending the day in Yuma, AZ. Thursday first stop was Phoenix, and then my route was East along I10 before dropping south to loop through Big Bend national park. Friday afternoon found me spending an hour at a nudist colony just north of Houston before dropping back to I10 and following interstates through Baton Rouge LA, Montgomery AL, Atlanta GA and ending in Spartanburg NC for Saturday morning. The ride was awesome but I managed to pick up a case of the runs with 300 miles to go and dealing with that got me time barred for leg 2. I had to be at the checkpoint no later than noon and I just could not quite make it. From there it was 750 miles home to Midland on Sunday aug 22. About 5700 miles in the rally, 7700 total including getting to Denver and riding home from NC.

No worries though on the finish though, as I hope to be back for the next IB5000 and will be carrying immodium with me just in case. Bob Jones was 100% correct when he said these were the best damn bike every built, 30+ years old and they can go toe to toe with brand new wings, BMW's and FJR's.

I hope to get my act together and put ride a report together with some pictures.
          Regards,
          Scott

You are going to drop a line like that in the middle of your story and just leave it there without any more explanation???

Not much of a bonus if the local senior centers provides transportation service to it. Quote Jeff Foxworthy "Oh no....Not THAT...Not That!!!."
