  • Tachometer Repair?

My tach goes up to 3000 RPM and stops intantly and goes no further as the engine revs higher. Is there any hope of repair? Or is it time to replace it?

    Hi JF,
there's always hope and the tach still seems to still be performing it's secondary function as an alternator charging indicator.
But I'd reckon it'd be easier to find another working tach than to get into yours.
Dunno about the square instruments on your Standard but for the round ones on a Special,
in addition to having the skills of a watchmaker and the patience of a Saint just to get the bezel off,
then you need to be an instrument maker to fix it.

I found one shop that might be able to fix it, if a chip is bad he says, then no fix. Oh and he has a 140.00 minimum
So I'll take my chances with a used one and swap the good one into my housing. I did read a thread here about taking a speedometer apart to repair it, I might try that once I have a replacement installed.

      Thanks!

Naaah Fred, it's easy... (we need a Tounge in Cheek smiley) Where's your sense of adventure?

Check this link here http://www.xs11.com/xs11-info/tech-t...especials.html if your brave enough to dig into it. I have, and after having done it I'm with Fred, replace it if you can.
