  • More Accel coil questions!

I finally brought my bike home from it's long WI vacation. I am now trying to get her back together.

To install the Accel coils I studied Gareth's instructions and great photo gallery (see links below). The pull that he used has been discontinued, and I could not find anything similar. So I altered some "L" brackets to clear the rivets on the coils. However, I am having serious clearance issues. Do I need to relocate the horn? It also seems to fit better if I lower the front and use the original location for the rear. Has anyone done it this way? Can I just drill a hole through the mounting on the coil, or should I grind it out like the pictures show? Can I reverse the coil wires and use the red 90 deg. caps at the coil, and either use the straight caps at the plug end or purchase some new 90 deg. caps. With the straight caps the wire comes out of the cap virtually on the valve cover. It is far to tight to get it to bend past the valve cover without touching it.

Sorry for being so long winded, and thanks in advance for the help

Both sets of accel coils I have do not use a straight connection at the plugs. they use a 90* at the coils and a long straight plug boot. On my modified bike I used 90* ends at both the coil and the plugs for a cleaner fit. The "L" brackets can be seen in the first pics. It is a tight fit but will go in there.

I just installed my Dynacoils. It's pretty tight in there. L brackets lower the coils and I did have to move my horn down and its still tight. In gary's writeup you'll notice two sets of holes in the vertical. The upper sets them down too low.

The best option would be some connector that keeps the after market coils at the same level as the OEM coils. Some have drilled through the coil mount to do this.

        Hi Dave,
FWIW, here's a photo of my Dyna coil installation. As the Dynas' bolt holes are at 90ยบ to the stock coils I made L-brackets from short lengths of angle iron.

Thanks! I think that my brackets will work if I move the horn down as was suggested. My brackets are very similar to the ones that are pictured. I had to order the 90 degree boots as I could not find them anywhere locally. I should get them by the end of the week, and I will try again. As always I appreciate the knowledge you guys share me!
