  • Special engine guards

Will the engine guards swap from all the XS1100's, or is the special frame mounting points different?

They are all the same. Do yourself a favor though, and get the 3-point guards, and NOT the 2-point ones. The latter will just fold up against the engine case, and smash holes in the engine!

Has anyone ever looked into having a machine shop make up some 3 points? I have a set that I need welded and unfortunately do not have the funds to buy a welder. But when I go there I was thinking about asking for a rough idea of how much it would cost to have them made.

Yep, I'll second that one. The 2-points are worse than useless...

Is this what you are talking about as a 3 point mount?

            That's a type I haven't seen before....

The trick is, you need a type that has the mounts triangulated; the pictured guards have three mounting points, but doesn't appear to be designed with that in mind. Here's a listing for a three-point type:
            http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1980-...ts_Accessories
... but unfortunately the seller only has one side. IMO the best style would be one like this:
            http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=35581
... but whether or not this particular one will fit an XS, who knows? I have seen this type on an XS a few times, but they didn't seem to be too popular as it interferes with fairing lowers.
