My bike just ran really good (knock on wood)
Been working bugs out for a while.
The bike has been sputtering hard starting not wanting to idle.
went through the carbs again and again.
Things got better but still not quite right.
I been noticing #2 not running sometimes so I pulled the plug and it was black a little wet. Got my meter and found the secondary coil circuit was open for #2. Everything is new so I went over every connection and got an ohm reading.
Fired the bike up and it ran great!
Like Don (DGXSER) has said more than once "sometimes an ignition problem can disguise itself as a carb problem".

Congrats on finding your particular "fly" in the ointment. When even one of the 4 cylinders isn't up to snuff it sure takes away from the riding experience.

When all is well and the hundreds of engine parts/systems are doing their thing along with the controls that put us in charge, it's a truly magic experience, eh? It's only after I get off the bike that my heart-rate goes down and I remember to BREATHE. (Only to get back on ASAP...) On land the XS is totally my preferred mode of getting from point A to point B. Good to know that others are willing to do what it takes to achieve and maintain the ability to do this.

When I'm not on land?? Way slower but still worthwhile:
