  • 12 volt accessory fuse?

So, I've wanted to get my GPS to work with my XS (alphabet soup much?) for a while now, so the other day I picked up one of those 12 volt sockets to wire it up to my battery. That way, I'd have a place to plug it in to.

My older brother, though, came up with a good point. Rather that just connecting it directly to that battery, putting a fuse in the circuit would probably be a good idea. My question- what size fuse would be the correct one to get?
    Currently XS-less.

Generally, you want to size the fuse at 125% of the full load. So whatever the GPS draws in amps, multiply that by 1.25 and use that number as your fuse size. If it falls between 'standard' sizes, go to the next largest. If you only have a watts number for power consumption, divide that by 12 to get amps.

1 amp fuse should be plenty.

Is there a reason why you don't want to use the little fused accessory connection by the fuse block?
I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.

I pulled that thing off my bike cause I was never going to use that little glass annoyance. I will put in my own fuses instead of that thing!

              Hey Lucien,

If you installed the 6 slot aftermarket fuseblock, then you can run the wires from the Aux terminal to one of the slots in the new fuseblock, and still retain the use of the screw terminals of the Aux. slot, just not the use or need of the glass holder!

Take the red wire off of the back of the Aux, terminal, run it to the fuseblock, then run the other side of the fuseblock to the Aux. terminal where the red wire was, but IIRC, move the brass clip so that it contacts the SCREW terminal part for the (+). Then also make sure that the black wire is connected to the (-) side/screw and that it also makes contact via the brass piece.

Wish I had taken photos years ago when I did this?
