  • fj 1200 head????

i was getting a price for the 1200 big bore kit from the Yamaha dealer, the guy said the fj 1200 has the same engine as the xs 1100,but the fj 1200 has a different head and more valves.Has any heard of this?or done this?

This sounds like BS to me but you never know until you try. I never had an occasion to tear a FJ1100 or 1200 down. I’ve serviced a bunch and also done way to many crash estimates on them but no major engine work.

BTW, the fastest I’ve ever been was on a FJ1100. There may be faster bikes today but that bike will always hold a special place in my memory. I did the 600 mile service on it and a month later the crash estimate after the owner totaled it.

Other places for Big Bore Kits!

      Hey Arron,

Do a search on here for Big Bore kits and you'll find info on other places to get one, definitely NOT from the Yamaha Dealer!!! You should be able to find one for $400-$500, and it includes, the pistons, rings, wristpins, headgasket!!

Also, the 1200(1196) kit is just a little bigger than the smaller 1179cc kit they have, but it will cause the cylinder walls to be that much thinner. There's plenty of punch in the 1179 kit, and you would still have room to go a little bigger if/when the pistons/rings finally do wear out. Just a few thoughts!

this is what i have found out!the fj's have a shorter stroke,so the pistons would probbally hit the head on the xsbecause the xs has a longer stroke.might be possible the use the fj connecting rods.i would love t try thisbut i love speed and i have no fear when i'm on a bike!!!!
