  • Pick up coil ohm meter test.

    Step 1
using a digital ohm meter set @ k ohms I got .738 at each coil.
Correct me if I'm wrong I believe that is the same as 738 ohms.
738 ohms falls within spec as I understand it Correct?
for some reason I only got an open line reading @ the ohm setting.

    Step 2
While wiggling the wires @ K ohm setting the reading fluctuated a little mostly from .738 to .740 ocasionally to to .750.
It never went to open line.
So I'm thinking my coils and wires are okay.
    Right?

Please let me know if I'm understanding this properly.

    Thanks again
    Rick

I believe that if your getting any variation when moving the wires there is something wrong. Moving wires should NOT in any way change their resistance.

You can get minor variations in resistance readings just by varying pressure of the meter's leads at the contact with its lead wires. It seems that things are fine if you applied some tension to stretch the pickup coil wires (if they could than the wires inside are broken).

Yes I would pull down on them and move the pick up coils to simulate what would happen while riding.

I was checking the meter to see if it read OL and it never did.
