  • Pacifico faiering wiring....OMG

OK, so I figured out the mounts for my new Pacifico wiring, thanks to some input from y'all. But the wiring. OMG. The wiring.....

The only wiring diagrams I have found are for a nine-pin connector. this fairing has a 12=pin connector. Several of the wires I know I am not going to use since I plan to leave the instruments wires as they came stock and the only accessory I will use is a lighter that is installed in the fairing. I don't smoke, but you never know when you will need a 12-volt power outlet.

the biggest problem is that someone in the past "fixed" some of the wires by splicing new wires in. They then encased the wiring harness in some type of wire mesh shrink wrap. I can see bulges from connectors in the shrink wrap, but I can't tell the colors of the wires inside. So my wiring is all color coded black. Handy.

The biggest issue, though, is that I do not see any of the wires on the diagram marked as a ground, except the black wire into the headlight. Does the headlight wire ground the whole fairing? Is this sucker supposed to ground another way? It can't be through the fairing mount since the directions require you to practically encase the fairing mounts in rubber. Suggestions anyone?

Other that these distractions, the fairing is lovely. Seems huger than a Vetter, but it is nice.

Yes, the ground is supposed to go through just that one wire! I ran all the ground for the lights through it, and installed a SECOND ground that went to one of the mount bolts. Tied them both together in the fairing and have NOT had a problem.
I will look for a wire diagram for the fairing, but you can also ohm it out with a DMM. You have Ground, High beam, Low beam, Right turn, Left turn, Running light (brown on the bike), Battery (always hot), switched hot(from key), and three spare wires for gauges.

Installation/wiring instructions for the original Pacifico Fairing

On this site is a link for: Installation/wiring instructions for the original Pacifico Fairing

The diagram has 12 wires maybe it will help you figure out what you have.
I'm installing a Vetter with the nine pin and on mine the ground wires for the head light, running light, directional lights and cigarette lighter are all connected together.
I traced the wires out with an ohm meter.

I had the same issues with my pacifico and the download is not much help because it is a bad scan, I ended up just winging it and going wire by wire

Pictures are bad but wiring diagrams are pretty clear. It gave me an Idea what is soposed to be happening.
Best to be sure and use an ohm meter looks like P.O. hacked his harness.

I really wish the picture showing the rerouting of the wire harness was clear. This is my last puzzle. It has to go somewhere else or it restricts steering as the harness catch on the top mount, which of course will cause my wires to be ripped out when it is the least convenient.

There really is no change to the wiring harness itself. When you remove the headlight, you just run the pigtail from the plug on the fairing, up to where the headlight was. There should be a nice long loop of wire, so the pigtail actually hangs down below the bottom of the fairing.
