  • 5k vs 1k ohm caps

So I changed the spark plug caps from the 5k ohm ones to the 1k ohm ones I found locally . I am running iridium plugs that have a resistor in them .
Bike seems to run better and my gas mileage is good .
I could have eliminated the caps altogether but like the look of them .

isn't the resistance in the plugs and caps just for radio frequency interference elimination. From my understanding you can eliminate all of the resistance in the caps and plugs without any ill effect on the bike (might even make it run better without the resistance).

I think you are right in that it is all about RF . The iridium plugs only come in a resistor type so I have that covered . I dont want to give bikers a bad name !
I know some folks run non-resistor plugs with non-resistor caps with no ill effects . I wonder how much of an improvement that would be over my present setup .

The Iridium are ONLY in a resistor type. I run the NGK NON-RESISTOR caps on the Standard. I've had no problems with my music, and the bike runs well(except for a carb problem I'm trying to work out!). I DO have the Mikes green coils, so I KNOW the spark is HOT!!
