    rotors?

    John,
I've never had a problem with the charging system due to the lights. Though they may be quite large, I kept my head when it came to setting them up. The headlight is an 8 inch unit as fitted to the XS1100S's & RH's but been fitted with a HID kit which draws only 55 watts. The spotlights are 6 inch units but only have 55 watt halogen bulbs in them. The larger reflector area more than makes up for the lower wattage.
The headlight gives fantastic illumination down the road on low or high beam, but the spots were fitted primarily for filling the dark areas that appear when you're cranked over in the twisties and the headlight is just an angled line of light which seems mainly to hit the area about 3 feet in front of you and off to the side of where you're actually going( Have a bit of a craving for night runs though the mountains when the air is cool and crisp and you have more forewarning of oncoming traffic). I just try not to hit the horns at the same time as they draw 50 watts each as well.

      Eveready

Eveready, I see your bike looks to be a standard from forks, a midnight from wheels and a special from tank and trim? What did it start out as and did you just do mod's or build one bike from many?

        Rotors?

        Long story.
It is actually a Special. When I bought it back in 2001, it had the instruments, fairing and seat off a sport (RH) fitted to it. I wasn't real familiar with the breed though I owned an 'E' back in the early 80's. I thought it was all stock until I got onto this site and started to put the puzzle together.
The wheels at the moment are '79 Special front and a '78E 17" rear which I tried to see if a permanent fitment was worthwhile for economy reasons. Didn't do diddly squat for the mileage so when that tyre's worn out, I'm going back to the original 16 incher to get the off the line urge back. Towing the trailer round is probably more suited to shorter gearing anyway.
The forks happened through neccessity as the idiot Yam dealers over here can't be convinced that a Special requires different parts to the Standards or Sports, which are the only ones they have parts listings for.
So I've been living on Ebay getting the bits to get the Special front end back together again and as a stopgap measure, I pilfered the forks off my "E" model parts bike. Details of my woes there are in other posts on this site.
Next step will be getting the wiring connector kit for the gauges so I can get the round dials back on her too. I didn't realise what the backlash would be from swapping the wiring harnesses over from a Standard to a Special but they are very different inside the headlight shell. Seems to be the only major headache, though.
Hopefully, I should have her back more or less in original clothing soon.
