  • clutch set screw stripped

I went to adjust my clutch and the phillips head is stripped out and I can barely turn it, are the screws readily available like from a hardweare store?? or a dealer only??

Well, the bigger question may be is the screw stripped or the hole it goes into?Fro alot fo parts on the bike, the screws are hardened steel and they go into aluminum, so the most likely candidate to strip would be the hole.

        Hi 'rider,
the threads on that special screw are OK but the crosspoint adjustment recess in the end is cratered out so your screwdriver won't turn it?
Eternal torment on the fiery hinges of hell to those who put crosspoints on anything except single use sheet metal screws.
If you can get the cripple out of there, best pay the appallingly high price and put in a new one.
Then go and buy the correct not-quite-a-Phillips Japanese screwdriver that fits it.

          adjusting screw

Bike Bandit has them for $11.38.
+1 the hinges thing, but did a relative of the designer(?) of the Phillips head design the Torx screw? They aren't much better.

            Hi Tim,
don't get me wrong, the Phillips screw head is a superb design for it's intended use which is driving self-tapping screws into sheet metal where the driving tool automatically cams out of the screw head when the screw is fully home and nobody will need to take it out again.
It's those who misapply this superb design to fasteners that need to be routinely removed and replaced that deserve the perpetual torment.
BTW1, I've never had Torx problems except to wonder if the world really needs yet another screw head system.
BTW2, I really like Ferry Counterbore heads, the ones that use all 12 flanks of a 12-point socket or box-end wrench.
