  • Search ain't helping

Mebbe a week or so back I used the search function to find out how to de-vacuum my Standard tank vacuum gas taps.
OK, there it was, dead simple, swap the operating levers from each tap to the other.
Lose the vacuum line and cap the intake connector vacuum connectors.
On is now Off, Prime is now On and Res remains Res.
Or so I think I remember that as being the sequence.
    So I done it.
Set off on a club run with the trip set at zero, a full tank, a 12 litre jerrycan of extra gas and the gas taps turned to Prime as being the new On.
Red light comes on at 100 miles. Still waiting to run onto reserve at 135 miles when the tank runs bone dry.
Seems that on my bike Prime is the new Res and Res is the new ON.
Mind you, On is still the new Off.
OK, so long as I know, that's fine.
But did I remember it wrong or did that mod's originator get it wrong or did I re-fix my taps' filter towers in backwards?
And that's when the search thingie betrayed me.
Seeking to double check what that tap trick actually said, I typed in every variation of vacuum, diaphragm, tap, spigot, etc. that I could think of.
Got all manner of interesting side-tracks, but not the modification I originally found.
    Help?
    Anybody?

Fred, there are 2 ways to modify the Standard taps...

First way, fill in the curvy slot in the tap with JB weld or solder and you're prime will be off.

Second way is to file the stopper tab off the outer chrome ring so the lever will point straight up, that will be off. I believe you also have to shorten the lever, it hits the tank.

    Here's one thread....

So, you mean you're only packing one, and not at least 2 or 6 of those 12 litre jerry cans in the hack where 14 cases of beer would fit?

That is a cool mod. Same effect as removing the Octy on the special!

Fred, what about your Dean can to go with the Jerry one?? (ok, its funny to me.)
