Agree with Randy.....two places on plugs seem to tell where floats, idle screws etc. work the best as do the exhaust if original good system.

      hmm, ok...

      better question then...

What ARE you using for sync gauges?

if it's the harbor freight variety, or ANY of the cheaper brands
you must calibrate the gauges before you use them.

      see here for prosess:

i had a similar problem until i found out my gauges were out of sync with each other.

1975 Kawasaki S1 250. My first bike. Still have it. NO I'm not selling it!!

Most bike problems are caused by a loose nut connecting the handlebars and the seat!!

        vac gauges

All of these guys have good suggestions, who is to know which one is the magic bullet.

I do know that I wasted a lot of time due to vac gauges being off when I did my carbs. If there is any question about the vac gauge that you cant figure, for absolute certain, just bench synch the carbs with the tiny wire to get started.

Have you checked the diaphragms for pinholes?

          Idle

Have you tried pulling the vacuum advance hose? If it idles down after this then I would bet you still have sync issues or carb diaphagm issue. What kind of vacuum readings are you seeing? Also when syncing and idling for long periods, make sure you have a fan or two to help her out!
