The Tinman was up to the island. A man of his word he did what he said he would. But I never thought I'd get a "new" motor. He swapped out my carbs with some pre-set ones he brought up. I felt like a little boy working with his dad. He was just flying around the shed with tools & parts all over the place & me basically standing in the way trying to look like I was doing something too hehe. Well he pulled out my carbs (I have the air box) like was nothing - a couple mins. Got me to take the bottom bowls off so he could look at my jets etc. I thought I was really doin' it man - hey I took off a total of 16 screws, okay so at the end he was waiting for me to finish. But I did put them in a container so I would loose any of them. He also brought me up a field coil with all the wire assembly, & the iron ring & bolts cover to match. This is the entire charging system for my bike. What a nice dude. He stated mine was fried thats why my head light, tach etc wasn't workin'. He was willing to put it on too, but I got him to explain to me how to do it & I'll switch it out this winter. The need to ride is great right now & I asked him if it would get worse or catch on fire with a surprised smile he stated no. Plus I didn't want to hold up the dude any longer as everyone else was at the camp having wabaly pops etc. So I'll do it this winter. We had a senior moment when he lookin at my old jets or whatever they are he stated that he couldn't read what size they were as they have a number stamped on the side of them. I told him I thought he was the young buck & should be able to read it better than me, well found out he is the same age as me. We both couldn't read it hehe. I booted it into the house hopefully me son was still home, he's 17 & must have the eyes of an eagle at that age. Well he was there, he read me out the numbers & also stated that there is a symbol in front of the numbers. I just smiled & I keep repeating that number so I wouldn't forget before I got back to the Tinman. Well I made it & gave him the number, now that made me feel like I was part of job. Well he put the new needles & or mains whatever in the carbs & we slaped it back in the bike. & I mean slap, less than a min. & they were back in the bike - oh I did tighten one of the brackets on the boots. He started it up with the carb sync hoses on & the black soot that came out of the exhaust was incredable. I mean if he wasn't there I would of shut the motor down. This was carbon (I have about 5,000 km's since the re-build) from the carbs not being properly jetted etc. & running wasy too rich & fouling up my motor. After the carbs were sync - which was cool to see in real life instead of pics from the site, he set the idle & asked me to take it for ride. Well man alive, I tell you there is NO COMPARSION from before to now. I thought I had power after the rebuild. "NOT" I had about twice the power than before man!!! The whole front end was wanting to lift up when I put on the throttle. I didn't even know where I was in my shifting as my rpms & power rose to an incredible extreme level. Man alive I hit 80kms in 3rd gear b4 I knew it. And the down shifting changed too, due to the motor being able to put up the rpms in the downshift immediatly with no problems or hesitation. I basically got a new bike man. And found out later "twice the gas mileage". I came back to the house with a perma smile or as the Tinman stated a "$h&teatin" grin that basically stayed with me for the rest of the weekend. Hell I got it now just writin' this. I was lucky too, cause I was able that evening & over the wknd to repeat the above new motor feeling to the fellow understanding riders a good 3 or 4 times each = well you do the math. The Tinman took my bike out for a ride after I got back & stated that is how they are supposed to run. What a gift!!! So this is an awesome Thank You to the Tinman905. Everyone should get "The Double T" What a monster he left me with. Oh, & the above grin I will always get it everytime I jump on the bike. The "new motor-power story" I got to repeat to my co-worker this morning, & there is just over 700 people that live in my town or Mindemoya = well you do the math - Dan

It is amazing how well one of these machines can run even when they run like crap. Here you think your living the dream feeling the XS power so many preach of. And then it happens, "Someone who knows a little bit more than I", says you, walks into the scene and begins to break out his tool box. I picture the scene from Toy Story II when the dude shows up to fix Woody and starts opening up his tools.
By the time they are done, you've seen ten times more than you thought you would or should of what is inside that thing. Then they push the button when it all looks just like before they started, and it sounds SO much better you think it can't get any better. And then they tune it....Woohoo. And you got the William Wallace version of an XS. Looking for fireballs to shoot out its arse!!
Nice work Tinman!!! There is no amount of money can buy those kind of SEG. Worth every second you spend doing the work.
Wheww...had to reread that second post, thought it said cheese at first. There are some parts of the story we do not need to read about.Last edited by DGXSER; 06-28-2010, 12:54 PM.Life is what happens while your planning everything else!
