  • If I touch the throttle it dies

Hey guys, thanx so much for the help/advice with getting my frozen clutch fixed a few months ago. The bikes been running pretty good till now.

It starts up ok but needs a good amount of choke to keep it running, the rpms dip and it sometimes eventually dies while idling. Its idling pretty rough. If I touch the throttle even slightly it instantly dies. Which makes riding rather difficult ;-)

    Any suggestions?

Then don't do that . Seriously, though, two things you might check - pickup coil wires, and the cleanliness of your carbs. Might also get out the DMM and take some readings at the TCI. Might even be as simple as a carb sync. Could be a lot of things, but you have to start somewhere. Diagnosing problems is as much a process of finding out what isn't wrong, as it is locating the problem.

I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.

Check for vacuum leaks too. The hose that runs from the intake boots to the octy or petcocks, or the vacuum caps, or where the intake boots seal against the engine.

I'm with c-bug look for a missing vacuum cap, or other leak, my next guess would be crud in the tank made its way into your carbs.

Check the pipes and see which ones aren't hot (or as hot as the others) and start your search there.

Don't touch it.......grab it and twist it like you stole it..........seriously though at the LEAST, you have a resticted idle circuit caused from a number of things besides gremlims....
